PREFACE

F R A Hopgood

April 1974

TREE-META is the latest addition to the META series of translator writing sytems developed from ideas first suggested by D V Schorre of the System Development Corporation. This 1900 version of TREE-META is based on the INTERDATA-4 implementation produced at Queen Mary College, London by W M Newman. I should like to thank the members of the Department of Computer Science and Statistics there for all their help. In particular, this manual is based on W M Newman's description of the INTERDATA version of TREE-META [1].

TREE-META was used for a variety of pre-processing tasks at Atlas. On the PRIME systems, a structured programming version of FORTRAN was implemented. The SPROGS Preprocessor was written in TREE-META. A Dimensional-Design system was developed by Rob Witty that was used to rewrite the complete Driver system on the FR80.
