This is a re-creation of the 30 by 30 film where the starting point is an even distribution of energy across the board and the end result is a histogram showing the overall temperature with the ratio between the number of cells with none and 1 unit being the same as the ratio between 1 and 2 and so on.

The original film used the SC4020 hardware character generator to produce units of energy as text on the screen using multiple asterisks.

This re-creation worked well with a special SVG font that defined 0, 1, 2 etc energy levels as different characters in an SVG font thus simulating the original film.

Unfortunately, with the decision by Google and Mozilla to drop SVG font support from Chrome and Firefox, it had to be totally rewritten. Such is progress.

This current version was first tried by creating each board position and just switching between each board and the next together with the histogram changes. All the main browsers failed completely. Only Chrome managed to display anything. It came off with the error message: error on line 1062 at column 1: internal error: Huge input lookup which does not help a lot;-)

This current version displays the initial board and histogram and then just makes the necessary changes between this frame and the next. This works pretty well on most browsers.

Further details of the original films can be found in the paper Chance and Thermal Equilibrium .
