Congratulations to the following members of staff who were successful in this year's promotion review:

The Atlas Building numbers have been changed to conform with the Rutherford Laboratory system of numbering:

These numbers should now be used when referring to Atlas Buildings.

SRC SPORTS DAY

Graham Holt

The final date for team entries in the SRC sports competitions is June 30 so please complete and sign the forms already circulated as soon as possible so that I can enter our teams well before the final day.

We have enough support for the football team and the netball team and only require 4 more members for the cricket team but no one seems interested in the tennis. Two tennis competitions are being organised, mixed doubles and mens doubles. Veronica Boulton (X6387) will help prospective players to find partners, so if you would like to participate give Veronica a call. Liz Krauesslar (X6384) is organising the Netball team and regular practices are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12.00. Mike Claringbold (X272) is organising the cricket team and Graham Holt (X6388) the football team.

Detailed travelling arrangements will be announced later.

CRICKET

Metalurgy 83
Atlas 81 for 7

Atlas at last managed to get a game of cricket, after the last two matches had been cancelled. Winning the toss, Atlas decided to let Metalurgy bat, as there was a new ball. Due to some very good bowling and excellent fielding, Metalurgy were all out for 83 in the last over. Main wicket takers were Graham Holt (4 for 16), Dave Daniel (3 for 12) and Ben Patel (2 for 19). The pitch was rather rough, giving an uneven bounce, and Eric Thomas has the bruises to prove it! However, he did manage to stump one batsman, after counting to 100 first!

Atlas began their innings reasonably well, but then fell foul of some rather strange umpiring decisions. Both Dave Daniel and Martin Guest being "caught" off the pad. Two no-balls given in our favour were hotly contested by the other side, and the umpire then changed his mind! Atlas were well behind the required rate when Graham Holt and Mike Claringbold came together. The latter connected right from the start, and swung the game back again, only to be run out by another piece of bad luck. A firm straight drive by Graham was partially deflected by the bowler onto the stumps. Although the rest of the side tried valiantly, Atlas ran out of time.

A PARTY!

Dave Ralphs is having a party in Grimsdyke (B Mess Extension) on Saturday 19 June. It starts at 8.30 and everyone is welcome. See Dave for more details.
