Here is your copy of the Guide Book for the Open Days 1980, together with extra information for the Families Day on Saturday 12 July 1980. We hope that you will be able to come and spend an enjoyable afternoon at the Chilton site.
The Reception desk in Building R.22 will issue additional copies of the Guide Book (while stocks last!) and sell Open Days mementos and space memorabilia at modest prices. Orders can also be taken for "Quarks to Quasars" T-shirts
"POWERS OF TEN" - The film illustrates the relationship between the number "ten" and the size of the physical universe. First focussing on Man, the camera zooms outwards towards the edge of the universe and then back again, past Man, to the nucleus of a carbon atom. The film was produced by Charles and Ray Eames (1978).
"SUCH STUFF AS DREAMS ARE MADE ON" - A description of the preparation and assembly of experiments to be mounted on the satellite Ariel VI, culminating in the launch in June 1979. The film, which was produced by Roger Burdett and directed and photographed by Peter Hicks, is an SRC Appleton production.
Special Attractions: In addition to the displays highlighted in the Guide Book, there will be a glass blowing demonstration in Area 6, and computer games and an extra film shown in Area 9. A balloon race will be in progress throughout the afternoon.
