This section gives some of the news items that appeared during the period 1976 to 1985 after the merger of the Atlas Computer Laboratory with the Rutherford High Energy Laboratory.
Initially the two computing Divisions remained as C&A and the Atlas Computing Division, but were merged in September 1979 to become the Computing Division under Bob Hopgood. The increased size of the Computing Division and changes in funding for computing activities resulted in it being split into two -- the Central Computing Division (CCD) and Informatics Department (INF) -- in July 1984. Articles in this section cover all of the Divisions.
