This was pre-1979 so there was no dish but you can just about discern the Nimrod/ISIS mound in the centre of the photograph, the (rather out of focus) R22 Restaurant close to the east car park, and the cantilevered Library of the Atlas Computer Laboratory across the road from R68 Stores. In the distance towards the A4185 is a village of pre-fabs. Towards the bottom of the centre of the photograph is Harwell's electron accelerator with arms extending in all directions. Harwell's other reactors are all out of shot.
R68, R71 and the Library Bridge are yet to be built.
R71 has now been built. The small square pointed roof of the Security Lodge can be seen opposite the Atlas building, with the "dustbins" of the DIDO and PLUTO reactors in the distance.
An unusual shot taken from the top of the ISIS mound. The RAL dish and Restaurant are visible together with the sprawl of R68 and the cooling chimneys of H8(?) and BEPO in H10 at Harwell. The white goalpost-like structures to the west are ionosondes. The blue "chimney" next to the one behind H10 is a nasty scratch on the photo!
The "E" reg Vauxhall Astra means it was registered between August 1987 and July 1988.
Diamond is almost complete but the landscaping still needs to be done. Across the road to the north of Diamond is the Harwell Bus Park and to the east of that the Tandem Van de Graaff generator with H8 and H7 behind. The two big Harwell chimneys have gone along with H9, but the Rutherford Security Lodge is still there.
