The bricks in the first version were smaller in size. Animating them as single bricks could not be accomplished smoothly by any of the existing browsers.
By reducing the number of different bricks to 15 and amalgamating all the bricks of one colour on one level to a single path definition, it was possible to get adequate animation out of Chrome, jumping from one view to another by Firefox and failed completely with Opera.
The animation is just changing 800 simple paths from one value to another in one step.
