The work on Device Modelling was initially a part of the activities of Bill Trowbridge's Group in Technology Department. It moved to Informatics Department on his retirement, where the initial work was instigated by Chris Greenough and was concerned with a pre-ESPRIT Device Modelling Project ESCAPADE for two-dimensional device simulation in 1985. This was followed by an ambitious ESPRIT I project called EVEREST, a three-dimensional device simulator, which ran from 1986 to 1991.
As part of the Alvey Programme, two projects, Process Modelling (VLSI 066) and Device Modelling (VLSI 034) contributed to the design and implementation a flexible software system (called TAPDANCE) for modelling of semi-conductor processes.
