Informatics supported activities and research in:
Funding initially came from SERC via various activities such as the Interactive Computing Facility, Software Technology Initiative and Distributed Computing Systems Programme. As the Alvey Programme took over, much more funding came from that area. Finally, as the Alvey Programme completed more and more of the activities were funded through grants from the European ESPRIT II Programme. There was also a strong interest in graphics and visualization and many projects had a component of one or other in their activities.
