The MMI Group were mainly concerned with the various workstations purchased for SERC and the Alvey Programme. Many of the activities were aimed at harmonising the systems from the various vendors so that applications needed only to be built once to run on a set of workstations.
The Alvey MMI Programme was later starting than the other programmes and finished earlier in the sense that the MMI Director was not replaced when he left half way through. In consequence, The involvement was less than with Software Engineering and IKBS. The topics here predominantly cover the attempts to provide standard interfaces and tools for the range of workstations supported.
