USERS OF AUTOMATIC INFORMATION DISPLAY EQUIPMENT

In June 1962, nearly 100 users and prospective users of the S-C 4020 Computer Recorder attended a two-day conference at General Dynamics/Electronics, San Diego. It was probably the first conference to support a peripheral. Among the speakers was Clement Pease of Bell Labs who wrote the basic set of SC-4020 routines upon which the films made at Bell Labs were based.

The Stromberg-Carlson User Group for the SC4020 soon became the Users of Automatic Information and Display (UAIDE) and it had its first annual conference in Chicago soon after in October 1962. The Annual Conference continued from 1962 to 1973 and much of the early computer animation was presented at the annual conference. Some of the animation presentations were:

  1. 1st: 1962 Chicago, 2-4 October: 79 people from 39 companies attend, all were SC4020 users

By 1974, the focus for computer animation switched to the new SIGGRAPH Conference series with its annual film show on one evening showing an ever increasing number of computer animated films.
