The Reconstituted SRC Atlas Computer Committee took over from the SRC Atlas Committee when the decision was made to restrict the Atlas service to SRC Grant Holders giving them a guarantee of time over the period of their grant.
This Committee had the major problem of replacing the obsolete hardware in the Laboratory.
It had to do this in a period of severe financial constraint within SRC that resulted in the move of the Daresbury Laboratory's High Energy Physics support to the Rutherford Laboratory. There was also pressure to close one of the three computing centres at Atlas, Rutherford and Daresbury.
