W3C Launches Mobile Web Initiative

2005-05-11: W3C launched the Mobile Web Initiative (MWI) to make Web access from a mobile device as simple, easy, and convenient as Web access from a desktop device. "MWI recognizes the mobile device as a first class participant of the Web," said Tim Berners-Lee, W3C Director. Announcement of New W3C Membership Fees

2005-05-23: A new W3C Membership fee structure has been announced to take into account regional inflation rates, and to narrow the USD value of fees paid in Euros (EUR) and Yen (JPY), relative to the fees paid in USD. W3C also introduced an experimental intermediate fee level. W3C wishes to thank the Advisory Board and Advisory Committee for their input. The new fees will be reflected in invoices to new Members joining on or after 1 July 2005, and in invoices to current Members only when their Memberships come up for renewal on or after 1 January 2006.

W3C Holds Workshop on Frameworks for Semantics in Web Services

2005-06-09: The W3C Workshop on Frameworks for Semantics in Web Services was held 9-10 June in Innsbruck, Austria, hosted by DERI and supported by EC's IST programme WS2 project. Over sixty organizations presented papers identifying areas of shared interest between Web services and Semantic Web communities. Topics included background technologies, registries, taxonomies, search mechanisms, ontologies for Web services, Web services choreography, and business process. Report on W3C Rule Languages Workshop Published

2005-06-07: The report on the W3C Rule Languages Workshop is now available. Over eighty representatives from various vendors, user communities, and research groups attended and reported on their views, experience, and ideas on options for establishing a standard Web-based language for expressing rules. W3C Celebrates Ten Years Leading the Web in Europe

2005-05-31: The World Wide Web Consortium marked the ten year anniversary of its European presence with a celebration on 3 June at CERAM in the Sophia Antipolis Science Park, France. The program included "How it All Started at CERN," "The Web as Unifying Force in Europe," "Policies Shaping the Web in Europe," discussion, a press briefing and reception.
