The Atlas Computer Committee last met on the 20th March 1975. There was no indication at the time that it was the last meeting although over the next year member's terms of office completed.
In June 1976, 15 months later, the Atlas Computer Committee was formally laid to rest. They met to wind themselves up. Sir Sam Edwards attended to make sure they did as they were expected! David Barron pointed out that they had been sold down the river, and was concerned at the indecent haste with which Rutherford had done their hatchet job. He was assured that his fears were unfounded, because Rutherford had in fact changed its role, and was no longer a High Energy Physics Laboratory. However, Mrs Paton announced that when control of the computing facilities goes from the Boards to the Council's new Computer Facilities Committee, the Science Board will set up its own computer committee to protect the Board's interests!
