Appendix 1: Information about Continuing Activities

The Seillac I Workshop on Methodology in Computer Graphics has been considered by the Graphics Community to be an important step towards an understanding of the field. The results have proven to be a source of inspiration and reflection to many concerned with the design and use of computer graphics systems, as well as helping in the development of standards.

Considerable work has been put in since May 1976 by several groups which have taken into account the main results of the Workshop. In particular we would like to mention the work and publications of the Graphics Standards Planning Committee (GSPC) of ACM-SIGGRAPH (1), the activity of a group chartered by the International Standards Organization (ISO), the ISO TC97/SC5/Working Group 2 (2). Several other national groups have been working towards similar goals; let us mention the activity of a working group under the auspices of the German National Standards Association, DIN Working Group 5.9 (3). Similar groups are working in France (4), U.K. (5,6), Norway (7), Canada (8) and very likely in other countries.

The IFIP W.G. 5.2 has itself encouraged the Graphics Committee to continue to pursue their objective: to initiate and promote an active program directed towards standards in Computer Graphics. At least one Workshop is planned along the same vein as Seillac I.
