INTRODUCTION

TASK is a system written at the Atlas Computer Laboratory to allow users to compile and run binary programs in a simple and efficient manner. The aim has been to keep, where possible, the same formats as for the standard ICL macros and to include most of their facilities. TASK offers many extra facilities and overcomes most of the failings of the present macros and should make the job of getting work through the 1906A much easier.

Users are strongly advised to use TASK since it is much more efficient that any other system and jobs using it will eventually get priority over others.

TASK caters for all facets of program running from compilation to the execution of binary programs and for the first time presents a standard system to meet the needs of most users.
