The London Atlas started to arrive in October 1963 but was not providing a proper service until May 1964 although some work was being done by the end of 1963. It had its upgrade in late 1964 and came into full service by the start of 1965.
Late in 1963, Rutherford Laboratory took delivery of a Ferranti Orion for analysis of particle physics tracks. Some staff had started to be recruited for the Atlas Computer Laboratory and one or two of these helped on the Rutherford installation.
In November, Aldermaston announced that they had placed a letter of intent to order an Atlas II to run along side and eventually replace the rented Stretch. The Atlas II probably was about 0.8 of an Atlas Unit on the Aldermaston workload.
