Ian Grant

Ian Grant was an SSO then PSO at UKAEA Aldermaston in the period 1957-64. He joined Atlas in 1964 as the Pembroke College, Oxford's Atlas Fellow. He held this joint appointment until 1969.

After leaving the Laboratory, he became full-time at the University of Oxford initially as a lecturer in Mathematics and later mathematical physics. He was a founding member of the University's Department of Theoretical Chemistry in 1972. He became an FRS in 1992 and retired as Professor of Mathematical Physics in 1998 becoming Professor Emeritus.

Ian was one of the organisers of the third Atlas Symposium on Interdisciplinary Aspects of Radiative Transfer. In the photograph, Ian is sitting at the right hand end of the front row.

Ian pioneered many useful and versatile algorithms and methods ranging from GRASP (General Purpose Relativistic Atomic Structure Program) for relativistic atomic structure calculations based on 4-component methods to code generation tools for calculating molecular integrals.
