University users: Overview
The only universities other than Manchester and London with reasonable computing power were eight universities with KDF9 computers.
A second set of around ten universities had useful computers mainly Elliott 803s.
An eight hour shift on an Elliott 803 was the equivalent to 5-10 minutes on Atlas. The rest had either no computer
or something very modest.
This section gives some thumbnail sketches of, or links to, some of the users of the Chilton Atlas
that illustrate the variety of the user base and supported universities.

X-Ray Crystallographers
This was particularly well-supported at ACL by John Baldwin and Judy Thomas supporting the X-RAY 63 and later X-RAY 67 suite of programs,
and the Microdensitometer service supported by Lorna Claringbold, Mike Elder and Pella Machin.
