Acknowledgements

The Chairman of the Committee would like to thank the many people who have contributed to the report.

He is especially grateful to the members of the Committee who were always prepared to meet demanding timescales and gave up a great deal of their working and private time to the project. Our discussions were always lively and constructive which made the Chairman's role particularly interesting.

We were backed by inputs from working parties who also had to work extremely hard to meet our timescales. Many other people also made inputs which greatly helped our discussions and our proposals.

Very real thanks are also due to all those who ran the secretariat. Bill Wigglesworth, David Johnson and Michael Wright for smooth organisation; Chris Barclay who drafted much of the report and my secretary Joan Adams who put it all on the word processor in her usual efficient way.
