User Note No 14: 360/195 Graphics Service

M F Chiu

3 December 1975

The outstanding work on the 360/195 spooling system is now complete and an FR80 service is now available for general use on both the 360/195 and 1906A.

The use of the SD4020 from the 1906A was stopped in September. The SD4020 will be withdrawn completely from service on 1 January 1976.

An outline of the graphics packages available has been given in earlier FR80 User Notes. Users' graphics programs written for the SD4020 need to be modified. A new graphics package, SMOG, oriented to the FR80 has been implemented on the 360/195 and users are encouraged to use this for their new programs. To ensure as smooth a transition as possible for existing programs, an emulator (SCFOR) of the old SC4020 package is available on the 360/195, together with procedures for automatically converting users' load modules to run the new software. It should be noted that new JCL (simpler than the old SD4020 JCL) will be required.

Users wishing to convert their packages are asked to contact Atlas Program Advisory Office (tel extension 6111) as soon as possible. ELECTRIC users should be able to assist themselves considerably by printing the file (27 pages) CLMAINDR.GRAPHICS.GUIDE.REPORT1, with FORMS=555.LINENUM=NO. This file contains information about all graphics facilities available at the RL central computer site.
