SPROGS Technical Paper No 6: Bugs

G A England

1 January 1973

PURPOSE

To draw PDP 15 users attention to various bugs in and changes to the PDP15.

INTRODUCTION

H Bolas has photostated DEC software News for December and sent it to me. It will be put in the Software Summary folder in the PDP15's bookcase.

DEC have fitted a switch so that the BSI may be isolated.

The spark interferes with the display on occasions.

SOFTWARE NEWS

1. There is a bug in CHAIN VSA. Library files cannot contain BLOCK DATA subprograms. Block Data files must be specified explicitly.

2. Numbers compared by AMOD and DMOD are restricted to being less than 131072. If anyone objects to this, a new DMOD may be compiled.

3. If you write:

DO 20I=1

the wrong error message is given - the compiler thinks it is an incorrect assignment statement.

BSI SWITCH

The BSI Switch is fitted to the front of the cabinet next to the DECtapes. It is an American switch, so is on when up and off when down. No illegal interrupts have happened, so far, with the BSI switched off.

SPARK PEN

WDS, JRG and B Woodard have found that the spark pen interferes with the display on occasions, causing the picture to break up, or causing items that should not be displayed to reappear.

Similar interference with display files happens, sometimes when programs are changed, or the display is switched off.
