Setting Intensity and Focus

R Brandwood

23 September 1975

Experience has shown that there is interaction between the FOCUS, QUAD, and IN PHASE which can cause one of the other settings to have no swing at all.

Setting INTENSITY and FOCUS should be accomplished as follows:

1. Load a film-making program and type FOCUS/255. This will cause focus image to appear on both monitor screen and PLS.

2. At Light Source Control Panel, select correct MULTIPLIER setting, then adjust the INTENSITY until the correct reading is obtained.

3. The actual focus is accomplished by null.ng the FOCUS, QUAD and IN PHASE.

Turn each knob so that it causes the meter needle to move down on the scale. When the needle reaches a certain point it will start back up again. Adjust the knob so that the needle is positioned at the lowest point.

Perform this adjustment with each of the knobs until the needle is nulled as much as possible. Locking the knobs will prevent them from being accidentally moved later on.

If trouble is experienced achieving swing on the needle, reset the knobs to mid-position (500) a~d start again.

4. Re-adjust the INTENSITY knob until the desired reading is obtained.

5. Return control to MONITOR by typing CTRLI on the teletype keyboard.

6. Set CONTRAST by typing FOCUS/0 and adjusting CONTRAST knob to desired level.

7. CONTRAST and INTENSITY are interactive and may require several attempts before the correct settings are obtained.
